Our Community  > Tourism

There are a small number of private enterprises in the community which are established through grants. There are limited opportunities for income for these enterprises to be viable unless work is done in targeting buyers for arts and craft outside of the community.

The Arnhem Land Barramundi Nature Lodge is an independent company operating a fishing venture which pays the Community a percentage of its income (royalties) for operating in their community and also a lease is in place for the storing of their equipment.

Visitor's Accommodation

The only accommodation available is through the Maningrida Progress Association, Tel: (08) 8979 6000, Fax: (08) 8979 6060. It is referred to as the MPA Motel and is quite comfortable. the original building has five main rooms. Each room contains 2-3 beds, shower, toilet, fridge, TV, linen and pillows are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, microwave, TV, video and also a lounge suite.

The size of the MPA Motel was doubled in 2003 with a new facility constructed adjacent to the existing building. The new section also incorporates 2 self-contained suites for medium-term accommodation.

It should be noted that because Maningrida is located in the Arnhem Land Aborginal Land Trust, all visitors to Maningrida Community require a Permit to visit Aboriginal Lands.
