The Maningrida Council Inc is elected annually by members of the Community. Nominations are called for and the whole Community is encouraged to vote. There are 15 elected Councillors, who choose a Chairman and executive committee. The Council operates under the NT Local Government Act and receives funding from both the NT and Commonwealth Governments.

Council is responsible for community housing, roads, the power, water and sewerage supply, the airport and barge landing operations, sports and recreation, and the operation of the community rubbish dumps together with various other functions. Council constructs most new community housing itself and produces high quality construction concrete for sale to outside organisations and for use in building construction.

During the 2005/06 financial year, Council is contstructing 4 x new 3-bedroom community houses, plus undertaking major renovations to three existing community houses under an Indigenous Housing Authority of the NT (IHANT) program valued at $1.6m.

Also during this period, Council has constructed a new $1.2m Aged Care Facility under a Commonwealth Government Department of Health & Ageing Grant, together with a $1.2m sporting facility upgrade including the construction of a new, covered basketball court for the Maningrida Community Education Centre.
