Eight Maningrida football teams competed in an elimination contest over the weekend, resulting in the two finalists, the Maningrida Allstars and the Maningrida Eagles meeting in the cup final on Australia Day afternoon.

The final was a very exciting and closely fought match, with both teams swapping the lead very regularly throughout the match. The final scores were Allstars 15-6, 96 points, just pipping the Eagles 13-16, 94 points.

It should be noted that because the Allstars are a Maningrida combination team, the Eagles were required to lose five of their players to the Allstars. In addition, the Eagles had also lost several of their key players, who had travelled down to Alice Springs on family business. As such, the Maningrida Eagles did extremely well in the circumstances.
